Community Outreach
Next Century Youth believes in giving back and as such has been able to have impact in the following ways:
Crabapple Middle School Business Partner
We have been a business partner for the school for two consecutive years.
We have put programs in place to work with youth in keeping them focused
while in school. We offer our “Deal With It Program” to youth who are referred
to “In-School” detention on an as need basis. The program also allows us to
bring in guest speakers to serve as positive role models for these youth.
We were proud to be a part of the schools Summer Olympics program for 2004-2005 by
securing the Guest Speaker and a NCY, Inc. Partner, Cory Blackwell (former Seattle
Supersonics NBA Player) for the Opening Ceremonies. Pictures are included from this event.

Mr. Blackwell is also founder of an organization know as Role Models for Life.
Based on the partnership and synergies that we’ve developed as well as future athletic
programs we had began working on, it was the absolute right fit based on the dynamics
required of the speaker for this occasion. Mr. Blackwell has the ability to reach youth
via his positive, motivational and personal testimonies from his own school years and
challenges. His message, one that most all youth could relate to, would no doubt
be remembered by students and faculty alike in years to come as they all listened
with anticipation of their own upcoming Olympic events.
City of Roswell, Parks and Recreation Department - June 2005
Next Century Youth, Inc. brought a first ever Sports Conditioning Clinic to the City of Roswell as a part of its spring/summer programs. This conditioning which was offered to youth ages 11-15, was held onsite of the local parks and covered agility, strengthening, how to beat the competition along with elements of playing with heart. Cory Blackwell and Julian Barber, a strong advocate for athletes ran this clinic. The program was such a success as evident by the feedback from the youth and overwhelming positive response from the parents, that we were asked to consider offering this program including tailoring it to be sport specific. Look for these and other programs as we continue partnerships with Roswell’s Park and Recreation Department. Click on the link for video clips from that event.
Youth Outreach Assistance beyond School:
Zion Missionary Baptist Church
One of our larger bridges within the organization has to do with mentoring and making life easier, especially when it comes to youth and technology. In 2005 we were able to share the wealth of the organization by donating computers where they didn’t already exist, where there was a need for upgrade, or to some deserving individual. To this end we placed a computer with the Mentoring and Tutoring Department of Zion Missionary Baptist Church of Roswell, GA. This was a program that the church had in place for some time assisting youth on Wednesday evenings with their schoolwork. When we encountered James Mims, an individual who had been passionately volunteering for the church in this capacity, the only thing missing was a computer so that the youth could actually finalize work while onsite. We are hopeful that any youth who do not have access to a computer in their home will benefit from this gift.
SECME Scholars
We had an opportunity to provide a computer to a student from Selma, Alabama via SECME, a Non Profit with emphasis on keeping youth interested in math and science. The youth who was the recipient of a laptop from Next Century Youth, Inc. sent a letter – excerpts from that letter read as follows: “My entire educational career so far had been sensational because of all the great teachers I have had. Since, my elementary days, I have been a very strong student in all subjects, especially math and science. Also, I am one of very few students who can actually say that he had never made anything lower than an “A” ever on a report card. My family has always been a major inspiration in everything I do. To be perfectly honest, I can never repay them for all of their love, but my major goal is to somehow make my parents really proud of me and what I’ve accomplished. Most likely, my career will be in either engineering or the medical field. Hopefully, by the grace of God, I will succeed in my goal to make the world better in any way I can.
After reading this letter and receiving his Transcript of straight “A’s”, and an SAT score of 12,430, we definitely wanted to reach out to this youth and make his continued studies even more palatable.
Reaching out to those in Transition
Sometimes we receive requests for help from afar. This was the case with a young lady from Philadelphia. She has encountered a number of set backs along the way. Sometimes the peer pressures from those around us distort views and upbringing. This was the case with the next Computer recipient. This young lady had a very bright and promising career in high school with a full basketball scholarship, but made some questionable decisions that landed her in the streets. She picked herself up after years and had reclaimed her life to be a better person and to make a positive contribution in her community. We believe in second chances and hope that our offering this desktop in this situation will help he to be all that she can be.
Alpharetta Police Athletic League (PAL)
We began looking into partnerships and one such partner was PAL of Alpharetta. This is a very seasoned organization whose goal is to help underprivileged youth. As I visited and shared goals with Joey Meadows, Executive Director of PAL, they had the mentoring program in place with volunteers from the local high school, but were in need of equipment. We provided a desktop for their facility to help them with their after school tutoring session.
Community Outreach – December 2004
On Christmas Eve 2004, we engaged our hearts and sought out a family via a local park
to ensure that their three children would have a Christmas similar to most kids their age.
We placed feelers within a local community and received a call later that day of potential
families who might have such needs. Contact was made to ascertain specific information about
the youth and we actually went on a shopping spree to obtain items that they both needed
and had asked Santa to bring them for Christmas. We became Santa, and on Christmas Eve we
delivered the items to the family. This was such a special time for the Founder’s family,
it was probably more special to us than it was for the family receiving.
Here are just a few shots from that event.
